Introducing Drawing on Mind Daily
31 days of writing as a creative practice.
Let’s start. 31 days of daily blogging.
Today is May Day and Beltane, which celebrates the peak of spring and the upcoming summer. As it is also the beginning of my birthday month, I felt inspired to embark on a new creative project.
Why am I doing it?
Every day, I journal and write, but I still desire to write more.
I find writing blogs hard work - they don’t send me into a state of flow. It’s the same with the newsletter.
Therefore these notes act not only as a stream of consciousness but also as a way to get over the block I have around writing.
Why do I want to share publicly?
It’s for accountability, but somehow, our work takes on a different meaning when we share it with a broader audience. It gathers specific energy.
I’m also a terrible overthinker; consequently, public writing feels fearful. My inner perfectionist tendencies paralyse my creativity, and in the end, nothing gets written, let alone shared.
What will I write about it?
These notes are my thoughts; some might have been sparked during my morning page practice, others brain dumped straight into the screen.
This is very much a creative exercise and experiment. Being open and aware of what it feels like to write this way.
Why write daily?
I draw daily and have finally begun to share those comfortably and publically. Now I want to see what happens if I share written words in this way, without overthinking.
These notes are an alternative to sketching in my sketchbook - they are sketch notes. Playing with thoughts that may act as catalysts and fuel other ideas. Or not… who knows?!
Why might I fail?
My curiosity about this process is enough to get me excited. However, during this process, I’m very aware that:
The inner critic says: “You’re certain to give up; it’s a stupid idea. No one cares.”
The imposter says: “You’re not a writer; you don’t write well. This isn’t your space.”
The saboteur says: “Don’t bother; save yourself the hassle and disappointment.”
The rebel says: “Let’s just see, shall we? Better to start and give it a go.”
And Finally…
After today, these posts won’t land in your inbox every day, but I will publish them to Substack notes.
They aren’t made to look pretty. They are words on a screen, from my mind to yours. Stripped bare.
Until tomorrow…
