Free subscribers have full access to the video. I want everyone to be able to try these exercises and join in with the Creative Snacks – no barriers, just creativity!
Last week, I shared the ongoing struggle of explaining what I actually do as an artist. It’s never as simple as a neat job title, especially when people assume that, now that I’m self-employed/no longer in a traditional job, I must be a lady of leisure! (If only they knew the reality of creative work, right?)
This week, I’m offering a playful solution: an Alternative Business Card that captures the full, messy, wonderful picture of who we are.
In today’s video, I’ll guide you through an easy exercise to create a title and description that reflects all your roles. Because we’re more than our job titles. And if the world insists on asking, “So… what do you do?”—we might as well have an interesting answer. This isn’t a corporate card; it’s a celebration of YOU!
Hit play, and let’s get creative! 🎨✨

🪜 The Steps
✍🏻 Step 1 Write: Your Roles
🔹 Primary Creative Identity - What defines your creativity?
Examples: Beauty Maker, Word Weaver, Visual Storyteller, Creative Alchemist,
🔹 Personal/Relational Identity - How do you connect with others?
Examples: Parent, Grandparent, Partner, Friend, Community Builder, Carer,
🔹 Unexpected/Playful Identity - What’s a fun or surprising side of you?
Examples: Family Chef, Night Owl Philosopher, Burlesque Dancer, Chief Hugger, Forest Bather, Amateur Sleuth
✍🏻 Step 2 Write: Choose Your Verbs Carefully
What do you do in these roles?
Examples: Drawing, Writing, Nurturing, Cultivating, Experimenting, Caring, Faffing
✍🏻 Step 3 Write: Plug It Into This Template!
Mash up your words into something playful, poetic, or powerful (spend no more than 5 minutes on this initially). Use this sentence to help you by filling in the spaces with your words from the previous steps:
"I am the [role] who [action], I am the [role] who [action], and sometimes the [unexpected role] who [surprising action]"
✏️ Step 4 Write & Draw: Turn It Into a Job Title and Create Your Alternative Business Card
Create a title that truly reflects YOU and draw out your business card to include:
Your name
Your alternative job title
[Optional] Your tagline
Your description
Decorate with drawings of icons, patterns, paint, collages, a photo, etc
Georgie’s Example
1. Creative Job Title
✨ Ink Alchemist & Creative Referee ✨
(Optional tagline: Balancing artistry with the beautiful mess of life!)
2. Description
"I am the artist who draws intricate worlds and cuts stories from paper, I am the mother who nurtures creativity with love and patience, and sometimes the chief referee who settles disputes with a sigh and a cup of tea."
Struggling to draw icons?
There’s a great website called The Noun Project. It has thousands of simple icons, many of which would be easy to copy and draw for your alternative business cards.
Also, Jenni Macklin from Tiny Leaf Press, has a lovely project this month: the Personalised Icon Set. This creative project is all about designing a personalised icon set that represents you. You’ll create 10 custom icons, which would be perfect for creating and decorating your alternative business cards with.
I absolutely love sharing these creative snacks. If you would be interested in joining a live Creative Snack call, let me know in the comments and tell your friends!
🎨 Have a creative rest of your week,
